Scope

The first HeDiSC Workshop on Open Source Software for Control Systems to be held at Lugano, Switzerland, June 30th - July 1st 2009 will focus on the use and development of free open source software (FOSS) for control systems. The main objective of this workshop is twofold: on one hand it will provide a forum for developers of software for control systems from Europe and Latin America to discuss and compare different design and implementation techniques, and, on the other hand, it will promote the use of FOSS for control systems providing tutorials and introductory presentations explaining their benefits. Accordingly, participants will be aware of the state of the art in the design of FOSS for control systems and will receive hands-on training regarding the installation and use of these kind of software.

Topics

The following free open source software (FOSS) projects will be presented and discussed:

Scilab/Scicos Numerical computing enviroment.
RTAI / RTAI-Lab Extension of Linux to add real-time operating capabilities.
Comedi Project that develops open source device drivers, tools, and libraries for data acquisition.
CANOpen Communication protocol and device profile specification for embedded systems used in automation control.
EMSO/EML A generic dynamic simulation engine and a library of models for process engineering.
Easy Java Simulation Enviroment to create interactive simulations in Java.
Maxima Computer algebra system that allows symbolic computations.
